David Copperfield, Musha Cay

Copperfield purchased Musha Cay and the surrounding islands in 2006 for a sum of about $50 million. He spent almost another $30 million to renovate and create ultra high end Musha Cay resort.

His island compound is 700 acres spread out over 11 islands. The other islands that serve as a privacy buffer to Musha Cay aren't the only acquisition Copperfield claims to have made with the purchase. He claims Copperfield Bay boasts a fountain of youth. Copperfield says, "You can take dead leaves, they come in contact with the water, they become full of life again. ...Bugs or insects that are near death, come in contact with the water, they'll fly away. It's an amazing thing, very, very exciting."

Musha Cay weighs in as one of the most expensive private islands for rent. Makes you wonder if Copperfield is a master magician or master marketer. But let's face it, white sugar sand beaches and crystal turquoise waters isn't exactly a hard sell.

Musha Cay Rates and Amenities

Visitors can rent the entire property, which has 40 private beaches and sleeps up to 24, for rates starting at $37,500 a night, including meals and beverages. Musha Cay is surrounded by three smaller islands to ensure privacy. Only one group of guests is allowed at a time. Guests can stay in the private 10,000 square foot manor house on the hill or in a thatched beach house away from everything. The island villas include private beaches and outdoor Jacuzzis. Air conditioning and satellite television are included, but phone calls are extra.

Enjoy an outdoor movie theatre during your stay. You'll want for nothing with an onsite staff of 30 that includes a masseuse and sommelier. Macaws are trained to pick up garbage. Your stay can also include an interactive treasure hunt where guests are immersed in a living movie. Pirates are played by imported actors. If you're looking for a place to tie the knot, you're in good company. Penelope Cruz was married there. And so was Google co-founder Sergey Brin.

Where is Musha Cay?

Musha Cay is located in Copperfield Bay, in the Exuma islands in the Bahamas, 85 miles southeast of Nassau. Copperfield's retreat is a 40 minute flight from Miami. Or you can take a three hour flight from New York or Chicago by commercial or private plane to Mosstown, Great Exuma. From there, it's a 15 minute charter flight to Musha Cay's 2200 foot private runway.
